RefundDaily.com

The United States Treasury publishes a refund number every business day and has done since October 2005. The Internal Revenue Service runs its master file on a daily cycle. Every federal rule that governs money going back to the person who paid it is written as a count of days. Daily is not a decoration on this name. It is the unit the subject is already measured in.

The argument

Nobody writes a refund deadline in hours. Or in months.

Three business days for a card issuer to post a credit. Seven for the merchant that accepted the return. Seven working days for a mail or internet order, ten business days for a door-to-door cancellation, twenty calendar days for an airline refund paid by anything other than a card, thirty for a mortgage escrow surplus of fifty dollars or more, sixty for a Medicare overpayment before it turns into a false claim. Fourteen days in New York for a security deposit, twenty-one in California, thirty in Texas. The whole of American refund law is a calendar, and its unit is the day.1

The measurement matches the law. Treasury's Daily Treasury Statement carries a line called Taxes - Individual Tax Refunds (EFT), published every business day and available as a free machine-readable series back to October 2005. On February 25 of this year it read $32,304 million. On September 9 it read $89 million. That is the same line item, thirty-two thousand million apart, and every reading in between is published too.2

Refund is the subject. Daily is the cadence the subject already runs on, in federal law and in federal data. Eleven characters before the dot, no hyphen, no numeral, and it reads aloud exactly as it is spelled.
